Here are some things you can do to make sure your home is protected
from fire. Make sure you check your smoke alarm batteries at least once every
other month. Make sure that you have a fire extinguisher close by. One of the
most important things that you can do is to make an "Escape" plan. An
"Escape" plan will show you how to get out of the house from every
room in case there is a fire. Below are some things to remind you to make sure
your home is protected.
___ ____
The fire department has many ways of handling an emergency. Some of
them are shown in the pictures below. We sometimes have to use airplanes to
help fight major forest fires. They can spray water and chemicals from the air
to help fight the fires that we can not easily get to. We sometimes have to go
into buildings to rescue children as well as adults. We always wear "air
packs" on our backs when entering a burning building to make sure that we
have fresh air to breathe. Most of us in our area are not fortunate enough to
have a fire hydrant close by. We fight most of our fires by drafting water from
local fish ponds.

This is the siren on our fire station. It is used to let people
in the community know that we have a call to a fire. |
Here is what it sounds like when all of our trucks respond to the
same call. |
